James Bartholomew
Since 1992, James has worked as a contemporary landscape and seascape painter. Strong light and colour are often central to James’ paintings and dynamic viewpoints are a feature in many.
“I have been painting the sea for nearly 30 years and it remains one of my favourite subjects. I spend several days at a time walking the coast, typically in remote and less explored locations. As the light and conditions change, subjects tend to present themselves and can be completely different from one moment to the next. The energy and motion of the sea is something that I try to convey, hence the gestural and energetic marks. Strong light and colour are usually the things that draw me to a subject and these often become the starting point for a picture”.
